Short Description:

The Laughing Dove is a small, slim dove with a distinctive appearance. It has a pale pinkish-brown plumage with a grayish-pink head and neck. The bird features a black half-collar on the lower nape, which extends to the sides of the neck. Its tail is long and graduated, with white edges on the outer feathers.

The Laughing Dove is widely distributed across Pakistan, inhabiting a variety of habitats, including urban areas, gardens, parks, scrublands, agricultural lands, and desert regions. It is commonly found throughout the country, from lowland plains to foothills and even into some mountainous areas.

Laughing Doves are often seen in pairs or small groups, foraging on the ground for seeds, grains, and other plant matter. They are relatively adaptable birds and can thrive in a range of environments, including cities, towns, villages, and rural areas. During the breeding season, which typically occurs from spring to summer, Laughing Doves build simple nests of twigs and grass in trees, shrubs, or on man-made structures. Both parents share incubation duties and care for the young chicks until they fledge. The species is known for its distinctive, melodious “laughing” call, which is often heard throughout the day, especially during the breeding season.
