In Pakistan, the Common Sandpiper is a common migratory visitor, seen primarily during the winter months. It can be found along the banks of rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, and coastal areas across the country. During migration, it can also be spotted in various habitats including marshes, estuaries, and mudflats.
Common Sandpipers are solitary birds known for their distinctive bobbing motion while foraging along the water’s edge. They feed on small invertebrates such as insects, crustaceans, and mollusks, which they pick from the mud or shallow water. Their breeding season typically occurs in the summer months in temperate regions of Europe and Asia, where they build nests on the ground concealed in vegetation. During migration, they travel long distances to reach their wintering grounds, including Pakistan.
