Short Description:

The Cinnamon Bittern (Ixobrychus cinnamomeus) in Pakistan is a small bittern with a height reaching 41 cm and a length of 38 cm. This bird has a general body color of red-brownish orange, with adult males displaying a chestnut brown upper body and dark orange cinnamon lower body with a black line in the middle and a whitish color on the side of the neck. Females have a darker coloration with striped upper bodies and mottled lower bodies. The Cinnamon Bittern is known for its skulking lifestyle in reed bed habitats, emerging at dusk to feed on insects, fish, and amphibians. It nests on platforms of reeds in shrubs, laying four to six eggs. This species can be challenging to spot due to its secretive nature and reed bed habitat, but it can be observed creeping almost cat-like in search of prey during the evening hours.
