In Pakistan, the Common Redshank is commonly found in various wetland habitats including coastal areas, estuaries, mudflats, marshes, and inland water bodies such as lakes and rivers. It is distributed across different provinces including Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, and coastal areas along the Arabian Sea.
Common Redshanks are primarily migratory birds, breeding in temperate regions of Europe and Asia during summer and migrating to warmer regions like Pakistan during winter. They are often observed foraging in shallow water, probing mud or sand with their long bills to feed on small invertebrates like insects, crustaceans, and mollusks. They are also known for their alarm calls, emitting a loud “tew-tew” when disturbed.
