Short Description:
Indian Cormorant is a medium-sized water bird with a sleek black body and a slightly hooked bill. During the breeding season, it develops white patches on its thighs and a distinctive white flank stripe. Its feet are webbed, aiding in swimming, and its plumage is highly adapted for diving underwater in search of fish, its primary food source.

Indian Cormorants can be found along the coastal areas, including the coastline along the Arabian Sea, as well as near freshwater bodies such as lakes, rivers, and marshes. They may also be observed in estuarine environments.
Indian Cormorants are primarily piscivorous, meaning they feed on fish. They are skilled divers, capable of swimming underwater for extended periods, using their powerful feet and wings to propel themselves. After fishing, they often perch on exposed branches or rocks with their wings spread wide to dry, as their feathers are not fully waterproof. They are social birds, often seen in colonies, particularly during the breeding season, where they build nests in trees or on cliffs. Their breeding colonies can sometimes number in the hundreds or even thousands of individuals.
