Short Description:

Male has blue neck and breast, and spectacular glossy green train of elongated uppertail-covert feathers with numerous ocelli. Female lacks train; has whitish face and throat bronze-green neck, brown upperparts and white belly. Primaries of female are brown (chestnut in male). First-year male lacks train and is similar to female, but head and neck are usually blue. and primaries are chestnut with dart brown mottling.1 Second-year male more closely resembles adult male butllas a short train, which lacks ocelli and is barred with green and brown. Length of train increases until fifth or sixth year.
