In Pakistan, the Oriental Turtle-Dove is primarily found in the northern and northwestern regions, including areas such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It inhabits a variety of habitats, including forests, woodlands, scrublands, and cultivated areas at elevations ranging from lowlands to mountainous regions.
Oriental Turtle-Doves are often seen in pairs or small groups, foraging on the ground for seeds, grains, and other plant matter. They are relatively shy and cautious birds, often taking cover in dense vegetation when approached. During the breeding season, which typically occurs in spring and summer, Oriental Turtle-Doves build simple nests of twigs and grass in trees or shrubs. Both parents share incubation duties and care for the young chicks until they fledge. The bird’s distinctive cooing call is a common sound in its habitat, often heard during the breeding season and while foraging.
