Short Description:
Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri), commonly known as the Ring-necked Parakeet, is a vibrant and charismatic bird species found in Pakistan. Adults display striking green plumage with a distinctive rose-colored collar or ring around their necks, which is more prominent in males. They also feature long, tapered tails and a powerful bill adapted for cracking seeds and nuts. Their vocalizations consist of a variety of squawks, chirps, and whistles, often heard as they fly overhead or gather in communal roosts.

Rose-ringed Parakeet is widely distributed across Pakistan, particularly in urban and suburban areas, where it has adapted well to human-altered landscapes. It inhabits a range of habitats, including parks, gardens, agricultural areas, and even urban centers. In addition to the more densely populated regions, they are also found in rural landscapes and forested areas, demonstrating their ability to thrive in diverse environments.
Rose-ringed Parakeets are highly social and gregarious birds, often seen in flocks or pairs foraging for food or engaging in social interactions. They feed primarily on seeds, fruits, flowers, and buds, using their agile feet and dexterous bill to manipulate food items. Their acrobatic flight patterns and energetic behaviors add to their charm, making them a common sight in the skies above cities and towns across Pakistan. During the breeding season, which typically occurs from February to May, pairs form monogamous bonds and seek out suitable nesting sites in tree hollows or man-made structures. They are known to be adaptable and resilient birds, capable of thriving in both natural and human-dominated landscapes.
