The Spotted Crake has a relatively short, straight bill, red eyes, and long toes adapted for walking on floating vegetation.

In Pakistan, the Spotted Crake is primarily found in wetland habitats such as marshes, reedbeds, and rice paddies. It occurs across various regions of the country, including coastal areas, riverbanks, and inland wetlands. However, it is generally less common and more localized compared to other rail species.
Forages in water and on wet to dry mud, usually keeping close to cover; picks food from surface of substrate and immerses head in water; stretches up to strip seeds from grass; also walks on floating vegetation. Omnivorous; mainly small aquatic invertebrates and parts of aquatic plants. Takes earthworms, molluscs, Arachnida, insects and their larvae, and small fish stranded in drying pools.
