White-throated Kingfishers are primarily solitary birds, although they may form pairs during the breeding season. They are highly territorial and often defend their hunting grounds vigorously against intruders. Their diet consists mainly of insects, small reptiles, crustaceans, and occasionally small fish. They hunt by perching on a high vantage point, such as a branch or wire, and then swooping down to catch prey with their sharp beaks. They are known for their loud and distinctive calls, which include a series of piercing “kek” or “kek-kek” sounds. During the breeding season, male White-throated Kingfishers may engage in courtship displays, including aerial acrobatics and vocalizations, to attract mates. They typically nest in burrows dug into earthen banks or slopes near water bodies, where they lay a clutch of eggs and raise their young.
