In Pakistan, the Yellow-eyed or Pale-backed Pigeon is primarily found in the arid and semi-arid regions of the western and northwestern parts of the country. It inhabits diverse habitats, including rocky slopes, cliffs, desert plains, and scrubland. This pigeon species is well adapted to arid conditions and is often observed in areas with sparse vegetation and rocky outcrops.
Yellow-eyed or Pale-backed Pigeons are typically seen in pairs or small groups, foraging on the ground for seeds, grains, and other plant matter. They are generally shy and wary birds, often taking flight at the slightest disturbance. Despite their relatively inconspicuous appearance, their vibrant yellow eyes are a distinctive feature that aids in identification. During the breeding season, which typically occurs in spring, Yellow-eyed or Pale-backed Pigeons construct simple nests in rocky crevices or on cliff ledges, where they lay one or two eggs. Both parents share incubation duties and participate in caring for the young until they fledge.
