The Rosy pipit (Anthus roseatus) is a species of bird in the family Motacillidae. It is found in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, South Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Breeds in high Himalayas; winters in plains and foothills in N subcontinent. Always has boldly streaked upperparts. olive cast to mande, and olive to olive-green edges to wing feathers. Adult breeding has mauve-pink wash to underparts with irregular black spotting on breast and flanks; pinkish to buff supercilium is very prominent. with broad dark eye-stripe and moustachial stripe, and whitish eye-ring. female is less pink below with heavier breast streaking than male. In non-breeding plumage. heavily streaked underpans and dark lores help separate from Water and Buff-bellied. This species has an extremely large range, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion (Extent of Occurrence <20,000 km2 combined with a declining or fluctuating range size, habitat extent/quality, or population size and a small number of locations or severe fragmentation). The population trend appears to be stable, and hence the species does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population trend criterion (>30% decline over ten years or three generations). The population size has not been quantified, but it is not believed to approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population size criterion (<10,000 mature individuals with a continuing decline estimated to be >10% in ten years or three generations, or with a specified population structure). For these reasons the species is evaluated as Least Concern.  Abundant resident in Pakistan's northern areas. Breeds throughout in Northern areas above the tree-line upto 4500m. Winters in outer foothills where ever is damp grassland.
