The Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher is primarily found in the northern regions, particularly in the mountainous areas of the Himalayas and Karakoram ranges. It inhabits dense forests and woodland habitats, often found at higher altitudes.
This flycatcher species is known for its agile aerial hunting behavior, where it catches insects mid-flight. It’s generally solitary or found in pairs during the breeding season. Migratory in nature, it breeds in Pakistan during the summer months, then migrates to warmer regions during winter. It constructs cup-shaped nests in tree branches to lay eggs and rear its young.
