Short Description:

Ashy-crowned Sparrow-Lark (Eremopterix griseus) is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in Pakistan. It is characterized by its sandy brown plumage, short tail, and distinctive ashy-gray crown. Males exhibit black markings on their faces during breeding season, while females have a paler appearance. These birds are often seen foraging on open grasslands and scrublands, using their long legs to hop and run while searching for insects and seeds.

Ashy-crowned Sparrow-Lark is distributed across various regions of Pakistan, primarily in arid and semi-arid habitats such as deserts, scrublands, and grasslands. It can be found in provinces including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Within these regions, it inhabits open areas with sparse vegetation where it can forage for food and build nests.
These sparrows are predominantly ground-dwelling birds, rarely venturing far from the safety of low vegetation. They are often observed in small groups or pairs, especially during the breeding season. Ashy-crowned Sparrow-Larks are highly active during the day, engaging in foraging activities where they feed on insects, seeds, and small invertebrates. Their flight is short and swift, typically only used for short distances or to escape predators. During courtship displays, males may engage in aerial acrobatics and sing to attract females. Overall, they exhibit typical behavior of larks, characterized by terrestrial foraging and distinctive vocalizations.
