Ashy Prinia is widely distributed across Pakistan, inhabiting a variety of habitats ranging from open scrublands and grasslands to agricultural fields and marshy areas. It is commonly found in both rural and urban environments, making it a familiar sight and sound across the country. From the lowlands to the foothills of mountainous regions, the Ashy Prinia’s adaptable nature allows it to thrive in diverse landscapes throughout Pakistan.
Ashy Prinias are highly active birds, often observed darting amongst low vegetation in search of prey. They feed primarily on insects, spiders, and small invertebrates, which they glean from grasses and shrubs using their slender bills. Their foraging behavior involves agile movements and quick hops from one perch to another. During the breeding season, which typically occurs from March to September, Ashy Prinias build dome-shaped nests from grass and plant fibers, concealed amidst dense vegetation. Both males and females participate in nest construction and care of the young. Additionally, Ashy Prinias are known for their melodious songs, consisting of a series of whistles and trills, which they use for territorial defense and courtship displays.
