Short Description:

Black Drongo (Dicrurus macrocercus) is a striking, medium-sized bird native to Pakistan. It is easily identifiable by its glossy black plumage, long forked tail, and red eyes. The bill is slender and slightly curved. Despite its small size, it has a fearless demeanor and is known for its aggressive behavior towards larger birds and predators. It often perches conspicuously on tree-tops or wires, making it a common sight in both rural and urban areas of Pakistan.

Black Drongos are found throughout Pakistan, inhabiting a variety of habitats including forests, grasslands, agricultural areas, and urban environments. They are particularly abundant in the plains and lowland regions, but can also be found in the foothills of mountainous areas.

Black Drongo is an adept and agile flier, often seen darting through the air catching insects on the wing. It is a highly vocal bird, with a variety of calls including harsh scolding notes and melodious whistles. It is known to be territorial during the breeding season, fiercely defending its nesting territory from intruders. Despite its predominantly insectivorous diet, it is also known to feed on small vertebrates and occasionally scavenges for food. During the breeding season, they construct cup-shaped nests made of twigs and grasses, typically placed high in trees.
