Black-naped Oriole is primarily found in the northern regions, including the foothills of the Himalayas and the forests of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It inhabits dense deciduous forests, wooded areas, and gardens, preferring habitats with ample tree cover for nesting and foraging. While it may be observed at various altitudes, it tends to avoid extremely high elevations.
Black-naped Oriole is typically observed singly or in pairs, though it may gather in small groups during migration. It is primarily insectivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, including beetles, caterpillars, and grasshoppers, which it captures with swift and agile movements among the foliage. During the breeding season, it constructs a cup-shaped nest suspended from the branches of trees, often using grass, leaves, and other plant materials. The male Black-naped Oriole is known for its melodious and flute-like song, which it uses to communicate with mates and establish territory. Its breeding season in Pakistan typically spans from March to August, coinciding with the warmer months when insect activity is high.
