Short Description:

Rather large and heavy with moderately long tail and wing, and a long, pointed bill. Adult has blackish crown, pale grey mantle, blackish tail, and pale iris, white in male (always dark in Lesser). First-year has crown concolorous with mantle, darker grey ear-coverts and dark iris, and can appear similar to Lesser.

Summer vagrant to the lower valleys of Gilgit, Astore and Diamer districts in Gilgit-Baltistan. Favors various types of open or semi-open woodland with variable bushy cover up to 2500m; winters in scrub and groves down to 700m.
Forages by moving slowly from low scrub to top of trees, gleaning and picking food items from leaves and branches, mostly on external leafy parts; sometimes catches insects directly on ground or by flycatching. Feeds mostly on arthropods, especially insects and their larvae; also berries outside breeding season.
