Short Description:

Moustached Warbler (Acrocephalus melanopogon) is a small, elusive bird species characterized by its olive-brown upperparts and pale underparts. It possesses a distinct moustache-like stripe extending from the base of its bill to its ear coverts, which gives the bird its name. This warbler has a relatively long, slender bill, well-suited for probing through dense vegetation in its marshy habitats. Its secretive nature and cryptic plumage make it challenging to observe in the wild.

Moustached Warbler is primarily found in the northern and western regions of the country, particularly in wetland habitats such as marshes, reedbeds, and freshwater marshes. It may also occur in suitable habitats along riverbanks and irrigation canals. While it is not a widespread species, it can be locally common in its preferred habitats during the breeding season.
Moustached Warbler is a highly secretive bird, often staying concealed within dense vegetation, where it forages for insects, small invertebrates, and occasionally seeds. Its distinctive call, a series of harsh chattering and rattling notes, is often heard emanating from the dense vegetation of its marshy habitats. During the breeding season, males may engage in territorial displays, singing from prominent perches to establish and defend their territories. Nesting occurs low in dense vegetation, with both parents participating in incubating the eggs and raising the young. Outside of the breeding season, Moustached Warblers may migrate to warmer climates or remain in their breeding range if suitable food and habitat are available
