Ortolan buntings inhabit various habitats including open fields, grasslands, and agricultural areas across different regions such as Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. They are primarily found in the northern and western parts of the country.
Ortolan buntings are often observed foraging on the ground for seeds, insects, and grains. They are known for their migratory behavior, undertaking long-distance migrations between breeding and wintering grounds. During migration, they form flocks and travel considerable distances. In breeding season, males establish territories and sing to attract females, while both parents participate in raising the young.
