Short Description:

Paddyfield Warbler (Acrocephalus agricola) is a small, migratory bird species known for its olive-brown upperparts, buff-colored underparts, and distinct pale eyebrow stripe. It possesses a slender body, pointed bill, and relatively long tail. During the breeding season, males exhibit more prominent markings and may engage in singing to establish territories and attract mates.

Paddyfield Warbler is primarily found in the northern and northwestern regions, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. It frequents a variety of habitats such as wetlands, reed beds, and marshes, particularly during the breeding season. During migration, it may also be spotted in coastal areas and scrublands.
Paddyfield Warbler is known for its skulking behavior, often staying hidden within dense vegetation such as reeds and bushes. Its song is a series of rapid, rattling notes, delivered from a concealed position. During the breeding season, males may engage in territorial displays, including song and flight patterns, to defend their territories and attract mates. They feed primarily on insects and other small invertebrates found among the vegetation, foraging low to the ground or within the reeds. During migration, they travel long distances between their breeding and wintering grounds, relying on suitable stopover sites for rest and refueling. Overall, the Paddyfield Warbler plays an important role in Pakistan’s wetland ecosystems, contributing to insect control and serving as an indicator species for habitat quality.
