The White-bellied Redstart (Hodgsonius phaenicuroides) is a small bird with striking features, characterized by a white belly, black wings and tail, and a fiery red-orange throat and breast. It has a slender build and a distinctive habit of flicking its tail.

These birds are known for their energetic behavior, often seen hopping from rock to rock or flitting between branches near water bodies. They are territorial during the breeding season and use various vocalizations to communicate and defend their territory. Their diet consists mainly of insects and small invertebrates, which they glean from the ground or catch in mid-air. During the breeding season, they build cup-shaped nests in crevices or rock ledges, typically near running water.
