Short Description:

A typical long-tailed tit in shape, with medium-long tail, white cheek patch and blackish bib. Adult best told by a combination of black bib and throat, narrow dark mask, pronounced white cheeks, cinnamon crown, yellowish iris, and grey-brown mantle. Juvenile has buffish-white throat and streaking on breast.

Uncommon resident in the south-western parts of Diamer district, neighboring Malakhand. Prefers open dry scrubby forest of oak, juniper and pine, also almond scrub at higher altitudes; breeds at 1500-3600m, descending to 500m in winters.

Forages largely in shrub layer, also in crowns of holly oaks and well-grown junipers. Found in pairs; from late summer in small parties, often joining mixed-species foraging flocks. Food largely insects, especially insect larvae and pupae, also spiders; possibly also flower buds.
