Short Description:
The Lesser Crested Tern is a medium-sized seabird with a distinctive appearance. It features a black cap extending from the bill to the nape, contrasting sharply with its white forehead and underparts. During the breeding season, adults develop a black crest on the back of the head, which contributes to their name. Their bill is orange-yellow with a black tip, and their legs are also orange-yellow. Juveniles lack the distinct crest and have a more mottled appearance.

The Lesser Crested Tern can be found along the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea, including sandy beaches, estuaries, and rocky shores. They are primarily observed during their winter migration period, which typically extends from September to April, although some individuals may remain year-round in suitable coastal habitats.
Lesser Crested Terns are highly migratory birds, breeding in colonies on coastal islands or remote beaches, often in association with other seabird species. They are agile fliers and skilled hunters, diving into the water from flight to catch fish, which they grasp with their bill. Outside of the breeding season, they may form large feeding flocks, particularly in areas with abundant fish populations.
